I don’t like Gleasons.
Gleasons is a business. Boxing generally speaking is designed to take
the kid off the streets and show the kid direction. In a certain way it’s
similar to religion. Stay focused and pay close attention to the instructions
and I promise you. Better things will come forth in your future.
The restaurant owner was making a lot of money and sponsored a kid.
He sent the kid to Gleasons after school.
The stock broker, lawyer or some big shot corporate executive sponsored
a fighter. You can pay for the kid to fight but you can’t pay for his education.

What people don’t understand. Boxing has a huge disciplinary approach.
As time is put in they’re gradually letting you do more. It’s not until after
two years until you’re able to do certain things. At the third year you can
now let your fists fly street style if you think the time is right. You now
have the conditioning to take that type of an unorthodox attack and can
recover from it well.
When the coach did mit work with me. I wasn’t reading combinations
for the reason who I was sparring with. He had more time put in, more
experienced. It didn’t work with him. I would throw 1-1 step -1-2-1-2-1-2-1
and again 1-1 step -1-2-1-2-1-2-1 but against someone that had the same
time put in it worked. I was able to see the opportunity. For that reason
I would leave and follow the boxer with more time put in. What did I do
before I walked in the recreation center? WOW ! ! Way to go genius.
The 1-2 is nothing more than “jab, straight cross”
I was as one dimensional as the sport permits.
For that reason I was able to fall back in my rightful
position and protect myself.
Thats why when I see that physical trainer in the park with the mits.

always a sign on the wall. “Parents do not coach the kids.”
This leads to confusion and that I can promise you.

a free agent. I don’t know. I couldn’t tell you. It’s a shot
in the dark. Your guess is as good as mine.

In the amateurs the coaches are not allowed to talk
to the fighters while they’re boxing. One of the big
secrets of a novice boxing team. The coach is in
the stands during the semi’s and gives instructions
by claps. Come the finals in open class in the final
round. I can promise you. Against the rules or not.
Both coaches will be yelling and screaming at there
fighters TO WIN!
In between rounds we chase each other around the ring.
During the whole workout. We’re never allowed to stand still.
That wasn’t in my case. That wasn’t in my gym. But we did
get to meet different people from different gyms in the city.
All gyms and coaches are different but all of this preparation
