As recently reported in the November 2009 isuue of "Hawkeye", a 2 1/2 pound "Pacu" (a species of freshwater fish native to the Amazon and Orinoco River basins of South America that belongs to the "Serrasalminae" fish family, which also includes the Piranha species) was recently discovered in Otter Creek. Vermont Fish & Game warns that such exotic species released to Vermont water bodies can be a serious threat to native species.
Otter Creek is one of the major streams located in the state of Vermont. It runs northward from Emerald Lake at the southwest end of the state and eventually empties into Lake Champlain at Ferrisburgh. It is the primary stream running through Rutland County and Addison County. Its length is about 90 miles.
